After designing and producing Asia’s first 6 spindle Automatic, Shimada has become Japan’s leading manufacturer of cam-less CNC 6 & 8 Spindle Automatics and 2-Spindle Indexers.

The Automatics can be configured with up to two CNC slides, bar-loaders capable of feeding up to 32mm stock, and numerous optional and customized features which can further reduce the cycle times of so many of today’s large quantity runs. By combining the accuracy of CNC and the ease of the cam-less operation, part set-up can usually be accomplished in less than three hours.

The 2-Spindle Indexer offers the “load while machining” capability on a CNC lathe with 10” chucks, a geared headstock, and a robust, milling optional, twelve station turret.

The 2 SI-6/8 2-Spindle 1NC Lathe was developed from the architecture of “reducing idle time to the utmost limit.”

    • Collet chuck, 6″, 8″, 10″, 12″ chucks
    • Loading with one spindle while processing with the other. Chip to Chip time “2 seconds.” Spindle index time “0.9 seconds.”
    • This design, with the chucking position outside the machine, leads to easy manual loading/unloading and chuck exchange
    • Simultaneous processing of the front and back side of workpieces with one machine

This lathe is optimal for the following types of work:

    • Tasks that need a short cycle time and a long loading time
    • Task with a short cycle time (work with a large loading time to cycle time ratio)
    • Tasks with a big difference between the 1st and 2nd process cycle times
    • Task that requires a large amount of time for chucking under manual loading condition

Shimada was the first in the world to develop and produce a CNC 6-Spindle Automatic Lathe.

  • Rough machining is conducted at positions with no NC slide, and finishing is conducted at the NC position.
  • A processing speed that is approximately four times that of general purpose NC lathes.
  • High precision processing is realized through the use of a divided structure that utilizes NC slide cutting and curvic coupling (optional).
  • Max. turning diameter is 60mm (2.36″).
  • Collet chuck or 5 inch hydraulic chuck.
